Our Crew had a muster out near the Great Salt Lake this past Saturday. We walked around a 1+ mi boardwalk out on the marshes and observed several birds, including red-winged black bird, osprey, sparrows, swallows, crows, and pheasant. Water is running strong under the mats, and there are cattails, reeds, and watercress.
Perhaps our most interesting observation came at the Preserve watch tower. A crow kept trying to fly towards the tower, but a red-winged black bird kept flying at it and pushing it back. At first we thought the crow was trying to steal nest eggs, but we found out that the crow has its nest right under the watch tower!
We had a great time and learned so many things. This is what Rover Scouting is all about!
